Although I studied and performed (almost exclusively) in the classical genre throughout college, I am an avid jazz fan. At present my 4 favorite jazz saxophonists are: John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Branford Marsalis and Joshua Redman. Working in studios and music venues, I have had the pleasure of meeting 3 of the 4 here on my list. Unfortunately, I won't be meeting John Coltrane for a (hopefully) long time :-) Other jazz favorites include Sonny Stitt, Wayne Shorter, Dexter Gordon, Houston Person, Coleman Hawkins, Ornette Coleman, Ben Webster, Clifford Brown, etc. Fav band leaders include Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, etc. Though Thelonius Monk is my favorite jazz composer by far, I also enjoy tunes by Duke Ellington / Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, James Brown!...
